2023 Solheim Cup

The 2023 Solheim Cup is a women’s team golf competition between Europe and the USA, first held in 1990 and named after named after golf club manufacturer Karsten Solheim, who was a driving force behind its creation.
The Solheim Cup takes place between a team of 12 golfers from Europe and 12 from the USA. On the Friday and Saturday, there are 4 fourballs matches in the morning and 4 foursomes matches in the afternoon. On the Sunday, there are 12 singles matches with all of the players taking part. Each match is played for one point, with the winner of the Cup being the team which scores most points. If the event finishes in a tie of 14 points, the Cup is retained by the current holders.
When is the 2023 Solheim Cup?
The Solheim Cup takes place every 2 years, usually in August or September. Originally held in even numbered years from 1990 to 2002, from 2003 it is held in odd numbered years and alternates years with the Ryder Cup.
The 18th edition will be held from the 18th to the 24th September 2023 and will be the last to be held before the competition switches back to odd numbered years from 2024 to avoid clashing with the Ryder Cup, after it was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Where is the 2023 Solheim Cup?
The event takes place at alternating courses between Europe and the USA. The 2023 Solheim Cup is due to be held in Europe, taking place in Finca CortesÃn Golf Club in Casares, near Malaga in Spain which has previously hosted three Volvo World Match Play Championships. This will be the first time the tournament has been held in Spain.

When and Where is the next Solheim Cup?
The next Solheim Cup will take place between the 10th and 15th September at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia which has previously hosted four Presidents Cup matches.
The 2026 Solheim Cup will then take place at Bernardus Golf in Cromvoirt in the south of the Netherlands, a course that opened in 2018 and has previously hosted the Dutch Open.
