The four Grand Slam events are the biggest tournaments in professional tennis – the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. Men’s tennis is governed by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the women’s game is governed by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). Each tour’s calendar is made up of a different category of event and ending in their respective Finals for the highest ranked players – the ATP Finals and WTA Finals.
The Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup are annual national team competitions competed for by men’s and women’s players respectively. Tennis is also an Olympic sport in which player’s represent their nations.
