The ICC T20 World Cup is an international cricket competition for the Twenty20 format of the game. First held in 2007, there have been 7 editions of the competition so far. The West Indies have won the competition twice, with Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, England and Australia all winning once.
The last competition was held in the United Arab Emirates in 2021 and was won by Australia after they defeated New Zealand by 8 wickets.
When is the T20 World Cup?
The ICC T20 World Cup is generally held every 2 years, although there was a gap of 5 years between the 2016 and 2021 editions.
The next ICC T20 World Cup will take place from the 16th October 2022 with the Final on the 13th November 2022.
Where is the T20 World Cup?
The 2020 ICC T20 World Cup was due be hosted by Australia for the first time at the below venues. However following the postponement of the event due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Australia will now host the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup.

- Brisbane – The Gabba (Capacity – 42,000)
- Geelong – Kardinia Park (Capacity – 34,000)
- Hobart – Bellerive Oval (Capacity – 20,000)
- Melbourne – Melbourne Cricket Ground (Capacity – 100,024)
- Perth – Perth Stadium (Capacity – 55,000)
- Sydney – Sydney Cricket Ground (Capacity – 46,000)
The hosts of the 2024, 2026, 2028 and 2030 editions were announced in November 2021:
June 2024 – West Indies & USA
February 2026 – India & Sri Lanka
October 2028 – Australia & New Zealand
June 2030 – England, Ireland & Scotland
Who is competing in the T20 World Cup?
There are 16 teams due to compete in the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup. The twelve teams that reached the Super 12 phase of the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup automatically qualified for the 2022 tournament (Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Namibia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Scotland, South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies).
Ireland and the United Arab Emirates qualified in February 2022, with the remaining 2 places to be decided in the Global Qualifiers taking place in May 2022.
