British and Irish Lions

The British and Irish Lions are a touring rugby union side consisting of players from the home nations – England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The Lions tour every four years, alternating around the Southern Hemisphere nations of Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

The first tour was in 1888 when a team representing the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland toured Australia and New Zealand.

The most recent results have seen the Lions lose 1-2 to South Africa in 2009, defeat Australia 2-1 in 2013 and draw 1-1 with New Zealand in 2017.


Next British and Irish Lions Tour

The British and Irish Lions are next due to tour in 2021 when they will visit South Africa, touring Australia 4 years later in 2025.

The Lions are due to play a three-match series against South Africa, with five additional warm up matches against local sides:

17 July 2021 (18:00) – Stormers v British and Irish Lions (Cape Town Stadium, Cape Town)

24 July 2021 (18:00) – South Africa v British and Irish Lions (Cape Town Stadium, Cape Town)

31 July 2021 (18:00) – South Africa v British and Irish Lions (FNB Stadium, Johannesburg)

7 August 2021 (18:00) – South Africa v British and Irish Lions (FNB Stadium, Johannesburg)
