Sports Tourist Challenge: Quest for ‘The 92’ – Mapping your way across the English Football League

‘The 92’ is one of the great challenges for Football fans and Sports Tourist’s – visiting all 92 grounds of every club in the English Football League. Considering the geographical spread of clubs across England and Wales, it is a difficult achievement and there are not many that have completed the challenge. What makes it even more difficult is the ever moving league structure, with two clubs replaced at the end of each season by promoted sides from the National League and new stadium’s being built.

Some say ‘The 92’ is only complete if you have watched a league match in the ground, however my criteria is simple: Watch any match in the ground (football or otherwise) or visit as part of a tour.

My Quest for ‘The 92’

I started tracking my quest for ‘The 92’ during the 2019-2020 season, using the brilliant 92 Club Football Grounds Collect and Scratch Off Travel Map by Maps International. Therefore for me, my challenge will be stuck in 2019 – I will attempt to visit all of the grounds on the scratch map whether the clubs are relegated or the clubs move. Situations such as Brentford’s Griffin Park being demolished, AFC Wimbledon moving from Kingsmeadow or Macclesfield Town being wound-up don’t help but I’ll find a way.
