The Oval

The Oval (known as the Kia Oval for sponsorship reasons) has been the home of Surrey County Cricket Club since 1845. The Oval hosted its first test in 1880 and a defeat of England by Australia at The Oval in 1882 led to the formation of ‘The Ashes‘.

The Oval has hosted Cricket World Cup Semi Finals in 1975, 1979, 1983, 2019 as well as a World Twenty20 Semi Final in 2009.

Location & Travel to The Oval

The Oval

The Oval is located in Kennington, a district in south London, approximately 2 miles away from the centre.

Airport: Two of the world’s largest airports are situated near London and both serve many international destinations.

London Heathrow Airport is 17 miles west of The Oval. From the airport you can use the underground at Terminal 4 to catch the Piccadilly line to Green Park and change to the Victoria line for a service to Vauxhall, a short walk to the ground.

Gatwick Airport is 26 miles south of The Oval and there are a number of options of getting to The Oval, all involving the rail network. The Gatwick Express runs to Victoria Station where you can change to the Victoria line service to Vauxhall.

Bus: There are a number of services which stop at or near the ground. Bus 36, 185 and 436 stop at the ground, whilst 3, 59, 109, 133, 159 and 333 all stop within a 5 minute walk.

Coach: Coaches have many different stops in London, with a main hub being London Victoria and some National Express services stopping nearby to The Oval at Vauxhall Park.

Alternatively, Megabus offers cheap travel to London and offers over 10 routes from Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Norwich and Sheffield. You can search and book your tickets here.

Driving: There is no car parking available at or near the ground. It is highly recommended to utilise public transport.

London Underground: The Oval tube station (Northern Line) is located directly next to the ground. Vauxhall tube station (Victoria Line) is also just a 10 minute walk away.

Train: Vauxhall station is a 10 minute walk away and has services to Guildford, Hampton Court, London Waterloo, Windsor and Woking.
