2021 Solheim Cup

The 2021 Solheim Cup is a women’s team golf competition between Europe and the USA, first held in 1990 and named after named after golf club manufacturer Karsten Solheim, who was a driving force behind its creation. The current champions are Europe, having won the 2019 Solheim Cup 14½-13½ at Gleneagles in Scotland.

The Solheim Cup takes place between a team of 12 golfers from Europe and 12 from the USA. On the Friday and Saturday, there are 4 fourballs matches in the morning and 4 foursomes matches in the afternoon. On the Sunday, there are 12 singles matches with all of the players taking part. Each match is played for one point, with the winner of the Cup being the team which scores most points. If the event finishes in a tie of 14 points, the Cup is retained by the current holders.


When is the 2021 Solheim Cup?

The Solheim Cup takes place every 2 years, usually in August or September. Originally held in even numbered years from 1990 to 2002, from 2003 it is held in odd numbered years and alternates years with the Ryder Cup.

The next edition is due to be held between the 4th and 6th September 2021. This is followed in 2023 before the competition switches back to odd numbered years from 2024 to avoid clashing with the Ryder Cup, after it was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The event takes place at alternating courses between Europe and the USA. The 2021 Solheim Cup will be taking place at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio in the USA. The course has previously hosted the 1986 and 1993 PGA Championships, as well as the U.S. Open on four occasions.

The Inverness Club is located approximately 6 miles west of downtown Toledo in the state of Ohio in the north east of the United States.

Driving directions from Turnpike: Exit 59: Follow exit ramp to TOLEDO (NOT Maumee) To Reynolds Rd. (Route 20); (veer right) onto Reynolds Rd. Turn Right on Heatherdowns Blvd, Stranahan will be on your right side, just down the road.

Driving directions from Downtown Toledo: Follow Route 24 (Anthony Wayne Trail) to Cass Rd. (Maumee) Turn Right. Stranahan sits at the Corner of Cass Rd. and Heatherdowns Blvd.

Parking during the 2021 Solheim Cup: General parking is available at Stranahan Theater (4645 Heatherdowns Blvd Toledo, OH 43614), with weekly passes costing $50 and available to purchase online. Daily passes are not available online and will only be available on site, costing $10. Shuttle buses take you to the Inverness Club, with a journey time of 12 minutes.
