2023 NHL Winter Classic (Ice Hockey)

2nd January 2023: Pittsburgh Penguins v Boston Bruins – Fenway Park (Boston, Massachusetts, United States)

The Winter Classic is one of the NHL’s premier events, held annually around New Year’s Day in an NFL or MLB stadium generally in an area that is home to an NHL team. This year see’s the outdoors match return to the world famous Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox and previous host of the 2010 Classic in which the Boston Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 in overtime in front of a crowd of over 38,000. Fenway Park will become the first venue to host two Winter Classics, as the Bruins take on the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Travel

2022/2023 World Darts Championship (Darts)

Alexandra Palace, venue for the PDC World Darts Championship and Masters Snooker tournaments

15th December 2022 – 3rd January 2023 – Alexandra Palace (London, England)

The annual World Darts Championship spans its usual slot over Christmas and New Years, with the Quarter-finals, Semi-finals and Final due to take place on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd January respectively. The premier event in World Darts has plenty of contenders this year, including three-time winner Michael van Gerwen, 2022 runner-up Michael Smith, World Number 1 Gerwyn Price and 2022 Champion Peter Wright.

Tickets

Many of the sessions at the World Darts Championships sell out well in advance, however there is always the chance of last minute availability through See Tickets here. Tickets for the Final cost £65 for a tiered seat or £75 for a table seat.

Travel

Alexandra Palace has its own train station (Alexandra Palace Station) which has a regular service that runs direct from Moorgate, through Highbury & Islington or from Kings Cross, changing at Finsbury Park. 2023 World Men’s Handball Championship (Handball)

Stockholm

11th-29th January 2023 – Poland & Sweden

Handball is a hugely popular sport, particularly in Europe and January see’s the bi-annual World Men’s Handball Championship take place in Poland and Sweden across nine different cities (four in Poland and five in Sweden). Denmark are the two-times defending champions having won on home soil in 2019 and Egypt in 2021 and go into this edition as firm favourites. The Final will be held at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm on the 29th January.

2023 Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup (Hockey)

Bhubaneswar

13th-29th January 2023 – India

The 15th edition of the Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup takes place in Odisha in India, returning to the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar (after successfully hosting the last tournament in late 2018), as well as the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela. Defending champions Belgium will be joined by other strong contenders including the Netherlands, Australia, England, Argentina and hosts India.

2023 Australian Open (Tennis)

Melbourne Park, home of the Australian Open

16th-29th January 2023 – Melbourne Park (MelbourneAustralia)

The 2023 Australian Open is the 111th edition of the event, which is the first Grand Slam of the tennis season. Held on the famed blue hard courts at Melbourne Park, Rafael Nadal will be looking to defend his 2022 Men’s Singles title but will face stiff competition from the returning Novak Djokovic, who was controversially deported from Australia on the eve of the tournament, as well as new emerging stars such as Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune.

In the Women’s Singles, Ashleigh Barty will not be defending her 2022 title after her surprise retirement in March – with World Number 1, Iga Swiatek being the firm favourite ahead of Caroline Garcia, Aryna Sabalenka and Ons Jabeur.

Tickets can be purchased either for a day or night session for each day and prices vary on where you sit and the session you attend. Tickets can be purchased for the Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena, Melbourne Arena and as a Ground Pass (access to Melbourne Arena, Show Courts 2 and 3 and the outside courts).
