Northern Ireland play the opening match of their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying group away to Italy. Northern Ireland last played away to Italy in October 2011 in a UEFA Euro 2012 qualifier, losing 3-0 at the Stadio Adriatico in Pescara as they ultimately failed to qualify for the tournament.
