2021 British Masters
The 2021 British Masters (currently known as the Betfred British Masters) is a European Tour golf tournament that was originally founded in 1946 and held every year (except for 1984) until 2008. The event was one of the most lucrative on the European Tour at its peak in the 1980s but was not held from 2009 to 2014 due to a lack of sponsorship. Returning in 2015, the tournament is ‘hosted’ by a leading British golfer who chooses the venue.
The current champion is Renato Paratore of Italy, winning his second European Tour event at the 2020 tournament at Close Hill Golf Club by three strokes over Rasmus Højgaard. 13 players have won the event twice, the most notable being Seve Ballesteros, Tony Jaclin and Greg Norman.
The 2021 British Masters is being played between the 12th and 15th May 2021.
Where is the 2021 British Masters?
The British Masters has taken place at many different venues across the United Kingdom (and twice in the Republic of Ireland), most often at Woburn Golf Club in Bedfordshire. Since the event returned in 2015, it has been ‘hosted’ by a leading British golfer at the following venues:
- 2015 – Woburn Golf Club, Milton Keynes, Bedfordshire (hosted by Ian Poulter)
- 2016 – The Grove, Watford, Hertfordshire (hosted by Luke Donald)
- 2017 – Close House Golf Club, Heddon-on-the-Wall, Northumberland (hosted by Lee Westwood)
- 2018 – Walton Heath Golf Club, Walton-on-the-Hill, Surrey (hosted by Justin Rose)
- 2019 – Hillside Golf Club, Southport, Merseyside (hosted by Tommy Fleetwood)
- 2020 – Close House Golf Club, Heddon-on-the-Wall, Northumberland (hosted by Lee Westwood)
The 2021 event is being hosted at The Belfry in Sutton Coldfield near Birmingham by Danny Willett, the fourth time the tournament has been played at the venue after also hosting in 2006 (won by Johan Edfors), 2007 (won by Lee Westwood) and 2008 (won by Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño).

How do I get there?
The Belfry is located in the village Wishaw close to Sutton Coldfield in Warwickshire, approximately 8 miles away from the centre of Birmingham.
Airport – Birmingham Airport is located approximately 8 miles south of the golf club. The Airport serves European destinations, as well as international destinations such as the Caribbean, India, Pakistan, Qatar and the UAE. There is a train station (Birmingham International) at the airport which connects to central Birmingham for onwards travel to Sutton Coldfield.

Driving & Parking – Exit the M42 at Junction 9 and follow the A446 signposted to Lichfield. The Belfry is approximately 1 mile away on the right hand side. Parking at the resort is free for the first 4 hours, costing £5 for up to 8 hours and £10 for up to 24 hours.
Train: Birmingham New Street Station is the biggest of Birmingham’s train stations, it serves many destinations across the UK including Bournemouth, Bristol Temple Meads, Cardiff Central, Edinburgh Waverley, Glasgow Central, Leicester, London Euston, Manchester Piccadilly, Newcastle, Nottingham, Oxford, Reading, Sheffield and Southampton Central. From the station take the bus as listed above, or use a taxi. Birmingham’s other main stations, Moor Street and Snow Hill are more regional, although there is a service to London Marylebone from Moor Street.
Sutton Coldfield is the closest railway station to the golf club, just over 4 miles away. The station is on the Cross-City Line between Redditch/Bromsgrove and Lichfield via Birmingham New Street.
