The Yas Marina Circuit is the venue for the Formula One Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Opened in 2009 at a cost of over $1 billion on a man-made island, it is reportedly the most expensive circuit ever built.
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was first held on the 1st November 2009, as the 17th and Final round of the 2009 Formula One season becoming the second round to be held in the Middle East after Bahrain. Sebastian Vettel won the inaugural race for Red Bull Racing.
The race has been ever present on the Formula One calendar, becoming the first ever day-night race with the floodlights at Yas Marina Circuit providing a spectacular setting.
The first event held at the circuit was a test event for GP2 Asia Series a week before the inaugural Grand Prix. Other events held include the overseas round of the V8 Supercars between 2010 and 2012, the short lived FIA GT1 World Championship across the same period and the Gulf 12 Hours endurance race.
