Stadio Olimpico, the centrepiece of Foro Italico

Home to city rivals A.S. Roma and S.S. Lazio since 1953, the Stadio Olimpico has hosted a variety of sporting events including the 1960 Summer Olympics, the 1968 European Championship final, the 1990 FIFA World Cup Final and several European Cup/UEFA Champions League finals.

The Coppa Italia final is played in the stadium each year, with the Italian National Football team playing selected fixtures here. The Stadio Olimpico is primarily used for football but the national Rugby Union team have played their home fixtures at the ground since 2012.

The Stadio Olimpico also hosted three group matches and a quarter-final at UEFA Euro 2020, including England’s 4-0 win over Ukraine on their way to the Final.

Location & Travel to Stadio Olimpico

Stadio Olimpico

The Stadio Olimpico is located in the Foro Italico complex in the North of the Italian capital city of Rome, approximately 6 kilometres away from the centre.

Air – Rome has two major airports: Leonardo da Vinci Airport – Fiumicino which is 40 km from the Stadio Olimpico, whilst Rome Ciampino Airport is 35km away.

From Leonardo da Vinci Airport, you will need to take a train to Termini central station, Tiburtina or Ostiense and then change to the subway as below. For Ciampino Airport, you will need to catch a bus to Termini station for the subway.

Bus – Bus number 280 goes directly to the stadium, whilst bus 32 goes to Piazzale della Farnesina, just a few metres from Stadio Olimpico.

Metro – The nearest metro stop is at Ottaviano (Red Line – Line A) which is about a 30 minute walk to Stadio Olimpico, or alternatively you can catch bus 32 from outside the station.

Alternatively you can stop at Flaminio (Red Line – Line A), then get off the last stop in Piazza Mancini, or you can stop at Lepanto (Red Line – Line A) and use bus number 280.

Train – Termini Central Station is located 6km away from the stadium, take the metro (Red Line – Line A) towards Battistini as above.

From Tiburtina or Ostiense station, take the metro (Blue Line – Line B) towards Termini and change for Line A.
