Riviera Country Club (Los Angeles, CA)

The Riviera Country Club is a private club that was established in 1926. Originally known as the Los Angeles Athletic Club Golf Course, the club features a championship golf course that hosts the Genesis Invitational, a PGA Tour event.

The event previously known as the Los Angeles Open was first held at the Riviera Country Club in 1929 and 1930, then again from 1945 to 1953 before returning in 1973 where (with the exception of 1983 and 1998) it has been hosted ever since.

The course has hosted three major championships – the U.S. Open in 1948 (won by Ben Hogan), the PGA Championship in 1983 (won by Hal Sutton) and again in 1995 (won by Steve Elkington). The Riviera has also hosted the U.S. Senior Open in 1998 and the U.S. Amateur in 2017.

The club will host the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open as well as the Golf event at the 2028 Summer Olympics. This isn’t the first time the club has hosted an Olympic event, with the dressage equestrian and riding of the modern pentathlon held at the Riviera for the 1932 Olympic Games.
