2019 Copa América

Copa América is a men’s football competition for international sides from CONMEBOL, the football confederation of South America. First held in 1916, the current holders are Chile who defeated Argentina in the 2016 Final.


Where is Copa América?

The 2019 Copa América is being hosted by Brazil for the fifth time, at the following venues:

  • Rio de Janeiro – Estádio do Maracanã (Capacity – 74,738)
  • São Paulo – Estádio do Morumbi (Capacity – 67,428)
  • São Paulo – Arena Corinthians (Capacity – 49,205)
  • Belo Horizonte – Estádio Mineirão (Capacity – 58,170)
  • Porto Alegre – Arena do Grêmio (Capacity – 55,662)
  • Salvador – Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova (Capacity – 51,900)


Who is competing in Copa América?

All 10 teams that make up CONMEBOL compete in the Copa América – Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. Since the 1990s, teams from North America and Asia have been invited to participate to increase the number of teams to 12 (or 16 in in the 2016 event).

Japan and Qatar have been invited to participate in the 2019 edition of Copa América.

How do I get there?

Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo both have major airports which service a number of international destinations. Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre and Salvador do have options for flying internationally but not as many as the other 2 major cities.

Where and when is the next Copa América?

The hosts for the 2020 Copa América has yet to be decided, whilst the 2024 tournament will be held in Ecuador.
