The Dubai Desert Classic (currently known as the Omega Dubai Desert Classic for sponsorship reasons) is a European Tour golf tournament, the longest running event on the tour outside of Europe and the first to be played in the Arabian Peninsula after first being held in 1989. The event often attracts a strong field with former winners including Seve Ballesteros, Ernie Els (a record three time winner), Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy (both two time winners).
The current champion is Lucas Herbert of Australia, winning his first European Tour tournament in 2020 after defeating Christiaan Bezuidenhout in a playoff.
When is the Dubai Desert Classic?
The tournament is held in late January or early February, after previously being held in March until 2005.
Where is the Dubai Desert Classic?
The tournament is played on the Majlis course at the Emirates Golf Club. The club has hosted the event every year since its inception in 1989, with the exception of 1999 and 2000 when it was held at the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club.
How do I get there?
The Emirates Golf Club is located 25 kilometres south of downtown Dubai, opposite Dubai Media City and Dubai Internet City and close to Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah.
Airport – The Dubai International Airport is the primary airport in the UAE, being the hub for the country’s flag carrier – Emirates, as well as the low-cost carrier flydubai. There are over 140 airlines that offer flights to over 270 destinations across all continents of the world from the airport.
The airport is about 35 kilometres north of the club and can be reached by car in about 25 minutes or about 50 minutes on the metro (see below).

Driving & Parking – There is an array of parking space at the club, lying not far off Sheikh Zayed Road (the E11 highway) when driving from downtown Dubai.
Metro – The Nakheel metro station is located directly outside the club’s main entrance.
Taxi – A taxi ride from downtown Dubai to the club will cost around 30 AED and take 20-25 minutes.
