SUMMARY:2023 AFC Asian Cup
DESCRIPTION:The 2023 AFC Asian Cup is an international competition for senior men’s football\, contested by the national sides from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). First held in 1956\, Qatar are the current holders having defeated Japan 3-1 at the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in the UAE. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen is the 2023 AFC Asian Cup?\n\n\n\nThe AFC Asian Cup is usually held every four years. The 18th edition of the AFC Asian Cup was due to be held between the 9th June and 9th July 2023 but was postponed due to a change in hosts (see below)\, with the competition now being held between the 12th January and 10th February 2024. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhere is the 2023 AFC Asian Cup?\n\n\n\nThe 2023 AFC Asian Cup was due to be hosted by China for the second time\, having also hosted the 2004 tournament. However China withdrew from hosting the tournament in May 2022 due to circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. \n\n\n\nIn October 2022\, Qatar were announced as the new hosts of the tournament ahead of hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Qatar will become the first country to host the Asian Cup three times\, after previously hosting in 1988 and 2011. Due to the high summer temperatures and Qatar’s participation in the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup\, the tournament has been moved to January 2024 (see above). \n\n\n\nThe tournament will be held in eight venues across four cities\, with six of the venues used at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The following venues will be used: \n\n\n\n\nAl Bayt Stadium\, Al Bayt (Capacity – 68\,895)\n\n\n\nKhalifa International Stadium\, Al Rayyan (Capacity – 45\,857)\n\n\n\nAhmed bin Ali Stadium\, Al Rayyan (Capacity – 45\,032)\n\n\n\nEducation City Stadium\, Al Rayyan (Capacity – 44\,667)\n\n\n\nJassim bin Hamad Stadium (Capacity – 15\,000)\n\n\n\nAl Thumama Stadium\, Doha (Capacity – 44\,400)\n\n\n\nAbdullah bin Khalifa Stadium\, Doha (Capacity – 15\,000)\n\n\n\nAl Janoub Stadium\, Al Wakrah (Capacity – 44\,325)\n\n\n\n\nAl Bayt Stadium will host both the Opening Match and the Final. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho is competing in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup?\n\n\n\nThe 2019 Asian Cup was the first to be expanded to 24 teams\, up from 16 teams. The hosts qualify automatically for the tournament\, with the remaining 23 teams decided by a qualification process. \n\n\n\nThe qualifiers for the Asian Cup also double up as the qualification process for the FIFA World Cup. Therefore the hosts do also participate in the qualification process\, although their place in the Asian Cup is already guaranteed. \n\n\n\nQualification for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup began in June 2019 and will take place over three rounds and a play-off round. The following nations have qualified: \n\n\n\nGroup A – Qatar\, China\, Tajikistan\, LebanonGroup B – Australia\, Uzbekistan\, Syria\, IndiaGroup C – Iran\, United Arab Emirates\, Hong Kong\, PalestineGroup D – Japan\, Indonesia\, Iraq\, VietnamGroup E – South Korea\, Malaysia\, Jordan\, BahrainGroup F – Saudi Arabia\, Oman\, Kyrgyzstan\, Thailand \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow do I get to the 2023 AFC Asian Cup?\n\n\n\nHamad International Airport in Doha serves many destinations across the world. With Qatar being a relatively small country and 4 of the venues in Doha\, travel should be relatively easy. \n\n\n\nThinking of flying? Search & book your flights through Skyscanner here. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow do I get tickets to the 2023 AFC Asian Cup?\n\n\n\nTicket information for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup will be available on the official website. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFurther Information\n\n\n\nAFC Asian Cup Official Website \n\n\n\nAFC Asian Cup Event Guide \n\n\n\nDoha Destination Guide \n\n\n\nQatar Destination Guide
