SUMMARY:2023 AFC Asian Cup
DESCRIPTION:The 2023 AFC Asian Cup is an international competition for senior men’s football\, contested by the national sides from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). First held in 1956\, Qatar are the current holders having defeated Japan 3-1 at the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in the UAE. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen is the 2023 AFC Asian Cup?\n\n\n\nThe AFC Asian Cup is usually held every four years. The 18th edition of the AFC Asian Cup was due to be held between the 9th June and 9th July 2023 but was postponed due to a change in hosts (see below)\, with the competition now being held between the 12th January and 10th February 2024. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhere is the 2023 AFC Asian Cup?\n\n\n\nThe 2023 AFC Asian Cup was due to be hosted by China for the second time\, having also hosted the 2004 tournament. However China withdrew from hosting the tournament in May 2022 due to circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. \n\n\n\nIn October 2022\, Qatar were announced as the new hosts of the tournament ahead of hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Qatar will become the first country to host the Asian Cup three times\, after previously hosting in 1988 and 2011. Due to the high summer temperatures and Qatar’s participation in the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup\, the tournament has been moved to January 2024 (see above). \n\n\n\nThe tournament will be held in eight venues across four cities\, with six of the venues used at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
